5 Reasons for Faucet Leaks After Installation

Installing a new faucet is a terrific do-it-yourself (DIY) job, but if done incorrectly, it can cause complications. To save water, leaks should be repaired as quickly as feasible. A leaking tap can waste up to 2,000 liters of water per month, according to Clean Up Australia Ltd., a nonprofit environmental conservation organization. The causes of leaks after installing a new faucet will be discussed below.

  1. Installation that isn’t up to snuff. The most typical cause of leaks after installing a new faucet is faulty installation. Check to see if the water supply connectors are correctly fastened. Make sure not to overtighten the connectors, as this might cause seal rupture or stripping out of the connections. If you followed the manufacturer’s directions carefully, you should have a leak-free installation.
  2. Seals that have been damaged. Leaks from the water supply valves or the supply line connecting to the faucet can be caused by a broken seal. When you disassemble the water supply line, look for rubber O-rings in the female end of all connectors. If the rubber O-rings are cracked or broken, replace them.
  3. Screen for a Blocked Faucet. A clogged faucet screen could be causing leaks from the water supply lines and connectors. Debris getting into the pipes during the first installation could cause a screen to become clogged. Mineral accumulation in the water entering the screen might potentially cause a blockage.
  4. Pipes that have cracked. Leaks can also be caused by damaged pipes, albeit this is a rare occurrence. Plastic and metal pipes can crack or break if they are handled incorrectly during installation. Instead of water leaking out of connection points, water will drip from a part of the pipe. Pipes with cracks or breaks should be replaced, or temporarily patched while you wait for an emergency plumber.
  5. Faucet that isn’t working properly. On rare cases, you may come across a faulty faucet that is the source of leaks. Before concluding that the faucet has factory flaws, make sure to rule out other possibilities. Check the warranty and request a replacement once you’ve confirmed that the faucet is damaged.

To ensure a leak-free installation, pay close attention to the manufacturer’s instructions. It’s also crucial to know how to troubleshoot any issues with faucet installation for speedy repair and restoration.
